Montréal
Quebec · 150+ trees tracked
Montréal's spring bloom season comes last among eastern Canadian cities. Note that due to Montréal's climate, true Japanese sakura seldom blooms before petal fall — flowering crabapples at the Botanical Garden provide the primary pink display. Parc Jean-Drapeau adds a St. Lawrence River backdrop.
A note on local bloom varieties
Due to this region's climate, local “cherry blossoms” are often flowering crabapples, Mayday (Prunus padus), or Amur cherry — climate-hardy substitutes for true Japanese sakura (Prunus serrulata). They bloom brilliantly and carry the same spirit of spring. Just a different species.
